What if, no matter how this turns out, that Trump tells GOP voters (who don't have a choice of their own in this race) to vote for de Leon to punish Feinstein? The logic would be that either of them would always vote against the Trump agenda anyway, and if Feinstein is replaced, California would lose a bit of seniority. And, there's the punishment issue. GOP'ers in CA have only two choices, either vote for who they think is the most moderate, or skip that line on the ballot. What if their Dear Leader gives them an order to wreak revenge?
I can definitely see that becoming the subject of a massive Trumpian tirade should it come to pass that Kavanaugh would not get confirmed by the Senate vote.
