On Friday night, Bill Maher probed former White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon about his thoughts about Democrats and the 2020 race.
Maher began by asking Bannon who scares him and began listing potential 2020 candidates like Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA), Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA), and former Attorney General Eric Holder. He then invoked Michael Avenatti, saying that he could be the Trump of 2020.
The guy whos the outsider, who like blows through the regular politician because he looks different and hes got balls, Maher said.
Bannon agreed. If Bernie Sanders had an ounce of Avenattis fearlessness, he would have been the Democratic nominee and we would have had a much tougher time beating him, Bannon told Maher.
Bernie doesnt have fearlessness? Maher asked.
Not like Avenatti, Bannon responded. Hes got a fearlessness and hes a fighter. I think hell go through a lot of this field if he decides to stick with it.
The former Trump campaign chief expressed that were in a new age where a professional politician is no longer desirable, citing someone media savvy like Avenatti or Oprah Winfrey will rise at the end of the day. He then offered his 2020 predictions.
Youre gonna have Trump on the right, a politician- maybe a Kamala Harris or somebody on the left, and I think youll have a Bloomberg or a Romney or somebody in the center, Bannon said. I think it will be a three-way race.
