It doesn’t matter whether he is trusted or no t, but trump will not be able to sqwash the FBI report, and while the report will not say guilt or innocence, if it shows he was untruthful, it is likely he won’t have the votes to confirm

I do agree with your speculation if that happens they will try to push another candidate before the midterms. The question is will the have enough time
