(8,303 posts)The Trustees report this year gave the OASDI fund exhaustion date as 2033. Once it's exhausted our benefits will be cut. That's 21 years from now.
The argument isn't about whether those under 55 will lose benefits. It's about whether the 50 year-olds of today will have to take the entire brunt, or whether the pain will be more evenly spread.
Just because I don't like Ryan's proposals doesn't mean he has his facts wrong.

The "official" fund exhaustion date for DI is now 2016. The 2033 exhaustion date for SS assumes that more funds will be transferred from OAS to DI so that Disability recipients won't get a cut of over 20% by 2017.
The Democratic party doesn't have a proposal to deal with this issue. Like it or not, people will be paying attention to what the GOP has to say on this issue until the Democratic party decides to deal with it.
