assumed here, though, that people don't bother to put out yard signs. There are still people here who think they've personally never socialized with (or "met" ) a liberal, or a Jew.

The latter subject comes up sometimes when someone learns my husband's Jewish, but the humorous self-amazement that sometimes accompanies this response is charming. Those know there's a much bigger world "out there" and aren't afraid of it.
