The mob long ago went mainstream...even back in the 30s and 40s they moved into legitimate businesses...and especially gambling in places like Havana which they owned until Castro kicked them out...then they used their political power to move to Vegas...

and sometime after the War...which gave them the political power they fused with government and politics and made themselves legal and in control.
