that is one of the keys - most people have never had enough to mount their own retirement savings or be able to save nearly enough.
Between SS and in some cases union pensions, people could retire with dignity.
As unions have been destroyed so have pensions. Killing SS will not magically give people extra money to save. They don't make enough now.

What killing SS will do is create a new set of workers over 65 willing to work for damn near nothing because they are desperate. This is a GOP Win-win
