4. It is like watching my former first graders trying to justify their bad behavior.

"You did it"....."You did it first"....."Well you did it more"..."No, you did it bigger first" etc. As the teacher, judge and jury they were both found guilty every time. However, with first graders it was usually solved very easily with the "I statement" (a quick way to listen to both parties arguing during recess and solving the problem in 1 minute). The first kid says, "I hear you and I understand. I will not do it again. I am sorry" then the other kid says the same thing and they shake hands and run off to play. Maybe the so-called grown ups should try it.
