87. One day I was about to give up my space close to

a mall entrance at the height of the Christmas shopping season. Before I could back my car out, two cars approached from opposite directions and both drivers were so determined to get my space that they blocked me in, got out of their cars, and started arguing about whose space it was. I was not in a hurry, so after a couple of minutes of this, I got out of my car, announced that neither was going to get the space, and walked back into the mall. I have no patience with people who practically come to blows over a stupid parking spot.

When I see someone getting into a car in a crowded mall, I will wait for the spot. Parking lot aisles are generally wide enough for one driver to pass another. So if another driver wants to get around me, he should be able to. What I hate is when a person gets in the car, starts up the engne, and then just sits there doing God knows what -- smoking a cigarette, checking e-mail, texting, making a call -- while I cool my heels. Happens all the time. Offenders are either oblivious or rude and there is no shortage of them.
