But it is. Calling someone mentally ill is a long standing way to label someone as dangerous or a target for ridicule. Only recently have we begun to realize that using stigmatized conditions as insults or vehicles for humor is problematic.
Recognizing it then attributing a truly bizarre incident to illness rather than entertaining the possibility that he showed up to the White House and didn't follow social conventions because..... he rejects them altogether? Doesn't think he should have to follow any? Doesn't see them as valid?
All some of the same objections I have heard to "political correctness." If that's how he sees it, it makes sense that he thought it would be okay or even appreciated in the Trump Whitehouse. I think he's just another Trump supporter who sees him as an everyman because he doesn't care about basic decency.
