And if you file for an extension, the IRS automatically gives you six months. Since I am overseas and have to file both US and German tax returns, it takes forever to get all the necessary documents, some of which need to be translated. I'm lucky if my US accountants manage to get everything in order by October 15th, because filing my US return depends on information on the German return for the same year, which is not due until 6 weeks later.

Russ Feingold was going to introduce legislation to bring the USA in line with most of the rest of the world, and have residence-based taxation for American citizens (the USA, along with Eritrea an one other African country, is one of three nations that don't have it). Unfortunately, he was cheated out of regaining his Senate seat, and teabagger Ron Johnson doesn't even know where Europe is.
