As soon as the indictments came down, all these formerly hale and hearty goodfellas suddenly showed up at court appearances with walkers, wheelchairs, oxygen masks, and IV set-ups, along with a heart-rending tale of failing health and frail constitution. Sallow complexion, slack-jawed uncomprehending faces, and wracking coughs were now the image of these devoted fathers and grandfathers ripped from the loving bosom of their families. Mercy, your honor, mercy!
