remember Paul Krugman's definitive piece in the NY Times on the republicans riling up the malcontents who were unhappy with having to be PC? It was a long, long time ago, like back in the early bush years, I think. I've searched for that column and never have been able to locate it, even in his archives. Regardless, its thesis has never left my thoughts when I observe how republicans behave. They put together a group of crackpots from a variety of sources and yep, this is indeed what the fruition: Le Grande Crackpot, Donald Trump. He truly is the monster they've cultivated, but I don't think they ever dreamed they would grow such a freak (simply because they lack imagination).

But they have, and now they have to, as you say, "feed it."

I edited my post to add "unhappy to be PC" because by definition, I am a malcontent. And so are many others. Nothing wrong with being a malcontent, as long as its not in the cause of hurting other people.
