(7,208 posts)As a person who came of age in the 80's, I was frequently reminded by older folk of how wonderful and special the music of the late 60's was and how nothing can compare to it's brilliance and depth. While I did (and still do) appreciate the music of that era, it was yesterday's news and didn't speak to me like the punk bands of 1983. Now in 2012 I would expect a 15 year old to view 80's hardcore as a bunch of overly distorted noise and angry yelling. Most of the music teens like these days seems silly to me, but it isn't for me anyway. It has been this way for a few thousand years and will always be this way.
If somebody is going to butcher a Dead Kennedys cover and change the lyrics I might revel at its badness, but I am not going to act as if something sacrosanct has been corrupted.
