12. We had a coal stove when I was a kid in a NYC apartment

early 50s? I was very, very young, but remember it well. I couldn't walk around the apartment barefoot. My feet were black. I remember always washing my feet. Even walking around NYC back then, my feet in sandals, and bottoms of my shoes, were always filthy. My Mom was CONSTANTLY mopping floors, telling us to take off our shoes before we came inside.

Clean coal? I don't remember that.
