to return to his comfort zone. All hate, all the time. He needs to incite an orgy of loathing, disgust and fear - for the mid-terms sure, but also I think he's just getting whilst the getting is good. Right now he has an excuse to shove aside all the boring work that isn't really about him and instead, run around the country spewing invective while crying his little baby tears about what a victim he is.

That's why he's going now. He's trying to shorten the news coverage of the event while freeing himself, so he's getting it out of the way.
