and stems from the ongoing dispute between India and Pakistan over control of Jammu. Radical Islamists use terrorism to try to claim the region for Pakistan. India now controls about 2/3 of the disputed territory (which it calls Jammu and Kashmir) and Pakistan 1/3 (which it calls Azad Kashmir “Free Kashmir”). Last I heard, China still controls 2 small portions in the north. Various Islamic militant extremist groups have been active in Kashmir ever since Partition in 1947, when Pakistan was created, making India and Pakistan two separate states, but giving Kashmir to India, despite the fact that more than 3/4 of its population were Muslims.

The article doesn’t say whether all unveiled women in Kashmir are being threatened with acid, or just Muslim women, but I suppose all unveiled woman are being threatened, because after all, these radical Islamist assholes are trying to make a point now, aren’t they? I used to have cousins on both sides of the dispute, but they are all dead now.
