(170,680 posts)I like Ari's ability to "control the room" and keep things moving. Plus his law background is especially helpful in guiding the discussions and tapping that knowledge to do follow-up questioning for the discussions.
However it becomes disconcerting when he suddenly switches gears, literally diffusing what is often a pretty serious subject to I suppose, "lighten the mood" or something. I don't think he'll ever be a Bill Maher or a Keith Olbermann, and he is in a slot that has had a high turnover of hosts the past few years (used to be Cenk, then Al Sharpton, then Ed Schultz). I get that he is trying to distinguish his show from Chris Hayes' (and even Chris' set and format have recently been altered a bit), so wonder if a more "Charlie Rose" or "Bill Moyers" style might work.
