Absolutely! After all, going and voting is how citizens of democracies stand and fight for their convictions.
I do love that quote for those people in the middle of a devastating war, Onward. Churchill was, of course, trying to strengthen backbones in terrifying times and to fire up the conviction needed to fight as one against the enemy. He was also a conservative leader who understand that coming together in honor and good sense was necessary for victory. Imagine! He was also a progressive conservative.
Goodness knows we desperately need more of all that, but how would Churchill fare on Twitter and Facebook today, reach people who refused to watch anything but Fox? Whatever happens Tuesday, the right's authoritarian coalition will be just as determined to defeat us Wednesday, and just as vicious and immoral in tactics. We no longer all gather around our radios each night as a giant captive audience, but somehow more of us need to become stronger in our convictions and principles.
A growing right-wing extremism that is incompatible with the functioning of representative democracies threatens to destroy ours. To win, we must rebuild the bipartisan mainstream majority that for over 70 years held stable against extremism from both sides.
Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. ~ Winston Churchill
This one's my favorite, though, Onward, from a man who sought conviction even n his pudding.
Take this pudding awayit has no theme!
