Bounced from law firms for a bit. Ran and lost a political seat in 2002. Appointed by bush as a U.S. Attorney in 2004. Managed a small law firm from 2009-2017, during which he was co chairman of Rick Perry's prez campaign, and did some other political shit.

None of that matter though because in August of 2017 he wrote a column critical of Mueller's investigation and was made chief of staff to Sessions the next month.

Connections, a politically tainted resume, and a knack for kissing ass.
