My dad fought in WWII, lost him this past Spring. Bronze star that he was so humble about. It was all about bringing down Hitler, and preserving whatever lives he could. He ran right up against an unknown German encampment, much closer than his command had realized, one night when he was scouting on horseback... backed out of there and got us the advantage without being spotted.
