(7,805 posts)15. There are plenty of honest people; but they aren't in control.
I used to push public servants to comply with their oath of office; but that did not bode well.
Over 100 were ostracized, fired, transferred, retired, quit or worse (they joined the dark side)
Even the top echelon of the DOJ were to no avail. I called the number 3 Deputy Director at Justice Department and he asked how I got his number. Told him his secretary was quitting because she was ordered to hang up on me and she knew that was wrong.
He said it was rude of me to wake him up.
I said that I'm sorry to hear he doesn't want to lose sleep over another $100 million in fraud I discovered.
He resigned the next day.
Here is the email he sent me promising his staff was on top of the case, way back in 2005.

Subject: RE: Item sent to the record today
Mr. Haas:
You most assuredly have our attention and my personal commitment that we will act in every case where action is required and we are aware of it. Please understand however, that like any prosecutor, we must exercise appropriate discretion in carrying out our responsibilities which while sometimes in a particular case may seem unjust, it is done with perspective to ALL matters we handle. I sympathize with your frustration and again assure you that my staff is extremely competent to handle this matter and will exercise appropriate judgment.
