2010, Pelosi should have allowed the traditional process to play itself out - the minority party only has two leadership positions instead of three - so what Pelosi SHOULD have done is let Hoyer and Clyburn run against each other for Minority Whip - a race Hoyer would have won. Had Pelosi simply allowed the normal process to happen, right now we would have an opportunity to elect a younger, rising star Democrat as Majority Whip. Instead, Pelosi created an entirely new leadership position in 2010 so Clyburn could remain in the leadership and essentially be Majority Whip in Waiting.
