(658 posts)However, I also think we have both taken way too draconian a view. I was on this form doom-saying pre-midterms and was outrageously wrong. The country did respond the way most had hoped and predicted. The blue wave did happen and it's just getting bigger.
We really didn't have all that great a chance of taking the senate two Tuesdays ago, but we definitely do in 2020. Now that I've seen pockets in actual red states repudiate Trump in various elections, I am sleeping better these days. We have a long way to go and the country is broken. But hope is alive for reasons I don't understand given all the hateful rhetoric, violence, and corruption we are watching almost daily.
Also, I'm going to try and drive the point home again - everyone should stop saying we are divided. This country is NOT divided or polarized. We are the majority. It's the fringe extreme minority, loud as can be, who are Trump's base. We outnumber them. Please don't buy into or spread the narrative that there are two sides. There is only one side. And then there is evil, racist, vicious trash. They've been there all along. Trump just gave them a reason to crawl out from under their rocks to hiss and piss at the rest of us. Now, let's give them a reason to crawl back under. They're cowards. Trust me, they'll go, especially when Trump does. And Trump will go. Of that, I'm finally convinced.
Or he'll nuke the planet and that's it, the end.
