(27,554 posts)86. I will never buy another "American" car. I don't want a pickup truck or a ginormous SUV.
I don't want a car that won't last 200,000+ miles. I don't want a car that looks great for a few years and then starts to fall to pieces. The whole American car industry was based on the idea that people would trade in their car and buy a new one every there or four years.

Ditto. I'm on my 2nd Focus as well. We bought it for the 35 mpg. 41mpg not unusual.

One of the best options is Subaru Impreza built in Indiana. Unless you want a larger car for more $.

That's my strategy and it works well. Buy a good solid used car and take good care of it.
