(2,208 posts)...that makes me really embarrassed to be a DUer, a liberal, an American and a human being.
Seriously, this is the kind of thing that makes me keep a total separation of my DU life with the rest of my social networking life. I will often link to original stories that I see first on DU, but I have never once linked a DU thread directly to Facebook. Because I find this place embarrassing at times, and I don't want real people to know that I spend time here.
On Facebook, I proudly back up everything I say with my real name and face, but I would never do that here because of things like this (among so, so many other things). I do find DU to be the absolute best news aggregator on the internet, which is why I'm happy to pay for it to exist. And, of course, much of the discussion is lively. And then there's shit like this.
I've long believed that anonymity on the internet allows people to say the most ridiculous things possible, things that they would never actually say out loud. I've really welcomed the trend, particularly among younger people, to say things on the webz using their real names and identities. Although there is certainly plenty of ridiculousness on Facebook, people do have to back up that ridiculousness with their real lives.
Not so here...
