26. They upped the child tax credit to reduce that issue somewhat

That is a 1000 more per child. At 22% tax rrate that protects $4500 of income. Also the rates have been reduced. At 12% rate the credit increase means even more.

Of course if you have older kids or adult children that are still dependents, then you do get the hit you described.
