In reply to the discussion: Has Anyone Changed Their Opinion of Bush Senior? [View all]Dorian Gray
(13,488 posts)when he was elected, and admittedly had little opinion about politics then.
So my opinion has altered. I've learned some good and some horrible things he did. I've learned more about his politics. Some of his failures. Some of his successes. Some of his successes that I'm ethically opposed to.
I knew he had fought in the war, but I learned more about his bravery. I also learned more about the racism used in his campaign.
I learned about his love for family and his desire to do good and be a shining light of virtue. I've also learned more about his possible philandering and relationships with women outside of his marriage.
Like most human beings, he has capacity for good and bad actions. He's fully human. Fully flawed. I believe he had aspirational ideals and he failed much of the time.
His humanity is opposed to what we see in the White House now, which is what makes it way more acceptable to people. And I saw the respect people had for him and wish we had SOME of that now.
