128. When I see Senator Simpson I remember his nastiness to Anita Hill

The past that is being evoked did not exist.

Bush was in favor of coat hanger abortions and Willie Horton ads.

He shut down a special prosecutor investigation by pardoning those likely to implicate him- in much the same way people think Trump might try to do.

He was however generally polite and civil. He is among the last of the World War II generation. He rightly was low key on the fall of the Soviet Union and he was a highly skilled politician. I believe he was a big help to Bill Clinton in his presidency-so did put our country over his personal loss. Unlike Donald Trump Bush actually did put his country first as he saw it.

The America that G H W led is gone and it is not coming back. Trump is a non-democratic interlude between the old Democratic Republic and the new one coming.

Media is marking the end of an era because they fear the nation of equal rights that we are going to be building. People are nostalgic for our old narrative about ourselves and the world.

In a sense this funeral is for that old America.
