who had been a State Department staffer during the Cuban Missile Crisis. We spent half a semester analyzing the sequence of events and what could have gone wrong. It took careful statesmanship and diplomacy to avoid disaster, including deft handling of the situation by Stevenson at the UN. We might as well appoint a random homeless person with a Magic 8 Ball to handle things. I'm not a religious person but this is enough to make me pray that there aren't any substantial international incidents with Trump in charge.
