Since Wikileaks revelations had brought down the Iceland bank, resulting in the government arresting bankers and nationalizing the banks, when he claimed to have more damaging info on 'major banks', and that some of it could bring down at least one of them, shortly after that these allegations were made.

We also know from the HB Gary emails released by Anonymous, that BOA was hiring Contractors, like HB Gary to go after Assange and to discredit anyone who supported him, including people like Glenn Greenwald. So there is absolute proof that at least one Bank was behind the smear campaign.

Also, Wikileaks obtained a CIA document which it published on its website where they discussed how to silence him, and settled on 'sex charges' as the best way to do so.

The problem is that Governments are now often controlled by Giant Corporations and will work to protect them.
