Frazzled is right. Richardson didn't campaign in Iowa. In fact, he had instructed his supporters in the state shortly after Thanksgiving to support the Occupy Iowa and Healthcare Not Warfare efforts to elect "Uncommitted" delegates in last night's precinct caucuses. Richardson reiterated that message this past weekend during an appearance on WSUM 91.7, the University of Wisconsin’s student radio station in Madison.

Since the Iowa Democratic Party has been so slow and reluctant in releasing results from last night's caucuses, it's difficult to say how successful the uncommitted effort might have been. Based on the returns from one Iowa City caucus that were widely tweeted early last night, President Obama received 55 votes while 17 caucus-goers voted for uncommitted.

Incredibly, nearly a quarter of those in attendance apparently wanted to send our party's center-right President a message.

Based on that somewhat embarrassing showing, it's little wonder why some Democratic party officials in Iowa wanted to suppress the statewide results last night — a kind of indefinite detention applied to democracy.

Sadly, we'll probably never know the true level of discontent expressed by last night's Democratic caucus-goers.
