(6,810 posts)She may not have been the preferred candidate for a segment of the left, but she represented enough of our collective ideas to be chosen to represent us in the general election*. In the end, that's all that matters in a candidate. We'll never have a perfect candidate, or one we can all agree on. That's the antithesis of a robust and healthy democracy. There must be debate and difference. We take those ideas forward into the next round, ever-striving to be better.
*Which, frankly, she won if not for the myriad chicanery. I wonder if we, as a plurality of the nation, will ever come to terms with the fact that the 2016 was not legitimate. 2000 and 2004 were stolen outright through electronic election fraud but we don't talk about that, indeed those voices were silenced here because we didn't want to appear nutty to the outside world. Despite the fact this site was founded on that not-unfounded belief. It was stunning when that directive came down from on-high, but whatever. The 21st Century is not off to a good start if we can't be honest about how it started. Democracy doesn't survive if you're not willing to defend it to the fullest from threats within and without.
