I think you nailed it in the second paragraph.
Ive known a few people such as that also, weird...all of them. Some fluttered back and forth from 1st to 3rd in conversation, but I believe they led their lives succumbed to the 3rd.
I think they view the 1st person of themselves as flawed in some way. The 3rd is as you said magnificent, above all others, stable genius, so much more acceptable to them.
