(21,245 posts)And that's the rub. Black voter participation actually went DOWN in 2016 for the first time in 20 years. While some, perhaps most, of the decline can be attributed to voter supression, purges and other dirty dealings by the GOP, some blacks (and some millennials for that matter) who voted for Obama in 2008 and 2012 just stayed home. That's certainly their right, but our vote is our voice. It's all we have. When we don't use it to help decide who our leaders will be, we let others decide for us. Clinton lost Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania by less than 100K votes total.
But I don't blame Clinton's loss on black people who didn't vote. I blame it on ALL people who didn't vote. It makes no more sense to me to insist that the Democratic nominee be a POC than it would for me to insist that they be female. I want the best candidate that can BEAT TRUMP.
