57. I noticed, and he was shaking his head "no" while saying it.

That's usually a tell but we'd have to know what she said. I could imagine she said something like I'm glad to be on board... then he says.. it's very humbling. In that case shaking his head could mean.. you shouldn't be or I'm not happy or he's just trying to find a way not to return the compliment.
