40. Um... the Congresswoman said "we're gonna IMPEACH the M-F"

because - okay I REALLY feel like shouting here -

HER CONSTITUENTS WANT TO IMPEACH THE M-F!!!!

THAT’S how Rashida Tlaib got to Congress, in the first place! Okay? This very likely played a part in her Election Night win. She won that race because SHE’S got a base, TOO! The all-hallowed trump base gets all the attention, annoyingly enough. That’s why I think it’s WAY past time that we start focusing on, and drawing attention to: US. US. The Liberal and Progressive base. The LEFT. You and me. Liberals and progressives. Don’t we count, too? And do WE not ALSO qualify as a base?

After all, WE ARE THE MAJORITY! Don’t EVER forget that! WE’RE bigger! There are more of US than there are of the freakin’ trump base - that gets all the attention and all the coddling and all the fretting over and all the press coverage! The trump base? Meh, THEY’RE the minority here. And if this is supposed to be a democracy, doesn’t the majority rule? Sounds like that might include her base. And HER base is NOT going to be ignored. And they shouldn’t be ignored! And THEY evidently want the M-F impeached!

She said that BECAUSE HER CONSTITUENTS HAVE TOLD HER that’s what THEY want her to do. I seriously doubt she would have been that vehement at that event - where all those supporters were cheering so loudly, and then louder still, in specific response to her “we’re gonna impeach the M-F” declaration - if her constituents didn’t care about this. She’s IN THAT JOB because a majority of voters, who evidently feel that way strongly, voted her into that job. They gave her an assignment. She’s showing that she hears them, understands clearly what they want and expect from her. She’s just proving to her supporters that it’s a priority for her, too, with a statement like that.

Don’t forget: if she’d had a milquetoast response or got nothing from voters about this when she was out campaigning, or was led to believe from her own campaign research and polling that her constituents didn’t give a damn about impeaching trump or calling him a M-F, there’s NO WAY she’d make this kind of big loud enthusiastic declaration at the top of her lungs like that. No way.

It tells me she’s got some bigtime trump opponents in her district. If they’re part of Indivisible, I guarantee she’s already heard an earful about precisely THIS ISSUE from them, about the need to IMPEACH a CRIMINAL so-called “president.” I know this because as a member of my local Indivisible group, shit, we hold meetings every month with our Congressman - or more accurately one of his staffers. And Boy Howdy do we let them know where we stand on these issues! We’re very polite, throughout, of course. The young woman staffer we usually meet with takes lots of notes and puts a report together for our Congressman as to what we said, what our “asks” are.

And we follow up. When some of these folks were campaigning, we staffed some of their events. We talked to campaign officials and campaign managers. Got on first-name basis with many of ‘em. We canvassed and phone-banked. Sometimes the candidate him/herself was on hand, and they tend to be open to questions and discussion at these things. Our Democratic candidates damn well knew what we supported and what we opposed (and how badly) AND what we wanted and expected to see from them if they won.

In the meantime, we keep them peppered with postcards reminding them of issues we care about and votes we want them to cast - during our bi-monthly “postcard parties.”

We’re ON THEIR ASSES. I’d be willing to bet that Congresswoman Tlaib heard calls galore for impeaching the M-F all along the campaign trail, and probably heard that particular “nickname” used more than a few times. Or other equally pungent verbiage with which we tend to describe trump.

Do Not Lose Sight Of This. OURS is the base that deserves the lion’s share of attention and deferential treatment. Our voices are being heard and our Dems have gotten the message. WE have weight to throw around because OUR base is bigger than trump’s. We just proved it a couple of months ago. (Don Lemon tonight (1/4) on CNN cited polling numbers that further validate that, for example: 57% of Americans do NOT want the wall. That’s a MAJORITY, and that’s US).

Again, because this is important, Rep. Rashida Tlaib said that, in that way, because that’s what she’s getting from the people who sent her to Washington DC to do that job they just elected her to do. She’s yelling about going to “impeach the M-F” because HER VOTERS are saying that’s what they want.
