I would like to put forth that the media was not always ratings driven. Not like this. People haven't changed. Media has. Instead of 3 channels and one or two local papers with limited space (that had to be used wisely) we now have 24/7 on dozens of local / cable / website / social media / apps etc etc etc. The competition for viewership has lead media down a path that doesn't serve either media or people well over the long haul. It isn't sustainable in my very humble opinion.

Your point is well taken but media outlets still have a choice whether to roll in the sewer or take a higher path.
