13. He's up at this time because the primary was less than two weeks ago.

He had a boost from winning the primary and hadn't opened his mouth until this week. The Republican primary was a close race and he managed to pull it off.

Everyone knows Claire-she's been a target in this state for many years, long before she became a senator. Akin isn't that well known outside his region.

Claire's camp actively campaigned against the other Republican candidates during the primary, pulling up every bit of nasty info they could find. When it came to Akin, they lobbed a slow softball over the plate, referring to him as "too conservative for the state". That's all they said about him and now we know why.

Bravo to the McCaskill camp for knowing how to pick the candidate! Now that he's opening his mouth they'll be able to use every last bit of that info against him, including the rape comments, the comments about ending school lunches because the government "shouldn't be in education" and the comments about actively ending Medicare because the government "shouldn't be in health care".
