(8,377 posts)Of course that was a terrible choice of words, but it is possible to see that as a misstatement. There are, after all, some cases where a woman alleges rape when no rape actually occurred. I don't see the point of that distinction because the woman should have control of her reproduction, no matter how the fertilization might have occurred. Nonetheless, that is not the part of Akin's comments that are so thoroughly deplorable to me.
It is the other part -- the very idea that there is some secret, imaginary contraception mechanism that a woman can summons, possible subconsciously, to race to the scene and prevent the rape from resulting in pregnancy. The idea that any man could utter words that stupid in 2012 is completely beyond my comprehension, let alone a man running for one of the highest seats in the land. Yet the MSM barely even mentioned that.
Our media is so bad these days, there is hardly any point in having freedom of the press.
