I think stories like the Buzzfeed item will and should get special scrutiny. In these desperate times for Trump, he needs to insulate himself and his base from the bad news coming. A planted story that gets us all prepared to get the pitchforks out and head to the castle that is then correctly debunked will embolden his base and create a new level of caution that will allow him to glide longer.

Trump needs to kill the messenger and a planted story can create a wound...
