(33,688 posts)and then barbequeing them. After Nixon, the original target-rich comedic environment, resigned the newer generation of writers had to find something else to make fun of. I always thought O'Rourke was pretty damned funny at the 'poon until he admitted in 1980 that he was a repuke. Even a fair amount of his travel writing for Rolling Stone was pretty funny, but he completely fell off the Ayn Rand deep end in the late 1990s and hasn't written or said one funny thing since.
Hell, Michael O'Donoghue was a far blacker, crueler, and meaner writer than O'Rourke ever dreamed of being or ever could be. Mr. Mike could really make you wince and cringe as he made you laugh and wonder if you really should be laughing.
BTW, O'Rourke is a Miami of Ohio alum, just like Lyin' Ryan. Though to be fair O'Rourke also got a Master's in Englsh from Johns Hopkins.
