(116,597 posts)that every candidate will have flaws. There is no perfect candidate (and even if there were such a creature, what might be perfect for you might not be perfect for me). If someone has been in politics for any length of time, chances are almost certain that they have done or said or voted for something you didn't agree with. So we have to consider how long ago that occurred - have they changed their position, or defended it? If they voted for or against certain legislation and you didn't agree with that vote, find out what else was in the bill. Find out the reason for their vote; was there a poison pill in the bill? Were they voting for something their constituents really wanted? Look at the big picture - can we look past the flaws to determine whether the candidate would be a good president over all? Perfection will be impossible so let's not demand it. I'd hate to see more of the nit-picking that made 2016 so rancorous.
