4. I heard one of Thom's callers make a great point the other day

I'm pretty sure it was on Thom's broadcast. The caller said that an easy, catchy way to answer how we'll pay for progressive policies like debt free education, universal health care and such is by paying for it "the way we used to pay for things". We taxed the wealthy along with everyone else.

As I'm sure you're aware, the U.S. used to tax the wealthy in a way that encouraged them to plow a portion of their profits back into their companies thereby creating growth and jobs. That results in employees spending their income and money rolls through all the economic levels of our society. Years ago I read that democracy can't exist with it's wealth flowing through all our economic levels. We appear to have applied the brakes on that concept. And on top of that we allow the newly created oligarchs to own members of Congress via contributions.
