Dems should be pushing harder for higher wages instead of taxing the rich more [View all]

The real issue is that productivity gains made by workers have mostly gone to the top 1%. The average worker today is far more productive than a worker 25 years ago. As a personal anecdote, I can attest that my work tasks which would have taken days can now be done in a matter of hours. The real problem is that workers have little to no voice on how those gains are distributed.

Dems should make worker rights and higher wages the central piece of their argument, not taxes. Re-distributing productivity gains through taxes is an inefficient way to ensure that workers share in the wealth. The daily workers who create the wealth should share in it first and foremost.

Raising the minimum wage. Giving workers more rights on the job to organize. Mandate that corporations pay workers more. These are more politically powerful and do more to resolve income inequality than taxes.
