Historically, in many (most) societies, that's basically what women were. No rights, no voice, no control. They were to marry and reproduce and rear the young and obey.
In this worldview, espoused by the Fundie Teakkklanner mob, of course the father would have rights over the child, regardless of the means of conception.
This is a horror movie without end, it seems.
