(19,697 posts)For example: All that gaudy gold-plated s--t? Does he even truly *like* gold? I mean, for it's *own* sake, independent of the context of what it signifies to others? I'm sure he likes it because he associates it with wealth and success, and he wants people to think he is wealthy and successful, so he wants to be seen with it to create that association... but does he have any internal experience (independent of what other people might think) when he sees gold crap? Does it move him in such a way that he would be similarly affected even if it were worthless to others, but aesthetically identical? I suspect not. He is an empty, empty person. Everything is a performance to get external validation.
The fewer living things put in a position to serve his need for external validation the better.
