(14,489 posts)Your point is well taken, but I was primarily attempting to point out that human trafficking is far more wide-spread in the US than most citizens are aware of. Whether it involves sex or seafood, it's wrong and those that organize it and profit from it should be in jail, IMO.
Not to mention that those that have been commandeered very rarely get the fair labor considerations we're accustomed to such as healthcare, social security and workplace safety protections.
Horror stories about about death and injury in meat processing plants and on fishing boats (for example) abound, but rarely are seen on main-stream news. Many of those deaths and injuries are simply swept under the rug and are not even reported.
We might ask ourselves then, why it takes an event involving a high-profile person for this wide-spread issue to get attention.
