But I'm not familiar with the history of masturbation. I guess it was invented by Hezekiah Bation of Philadelphia in 1837. "Master Bation" as he was known, was a former apprentice to Benjamin Franklin, and he wrote in his journal, "I have discovered a most expeditious way to perform the conjugal act alone."

Many medical experts at the time scoffed at Master Bation, but he persisted and perfected it in time for a demonstration at the Boston Mercantile Exposition of 1840, where crowds gathered to learn this new technique.
