(18,272 posts)16. To me, impeachment would be playing the long game
Future presidents should know that there are real consequences to their actions. If Trump has committed impeachable offenses, then it's Congress's responsibility to act and make an example of him. Presidents and other executives will continue their corrupt ways if they know that they're going to get away with it.
Maybe committing campaign finance crimes by paying hush money isn't serious enough to impeach. Maybe accepting bribes in the form of foreign emoluments isn't either. But conspiring with a foreign adversary to subvert our elections sure in hell is.
